These qualifications are for those who work, or want to work as teachers/trainers in the further education and skills sector, including those who are not in a teaching role, or who have just started a teaching role, and include Award-size qualifications for those who want a short qualification to enable them to make career choices.
What is involved in the course?
The qualification covers the knowledge and skills required by teachers in the further education and skills sector, such as:
• the roles, responsibilities and relationships in education and training
• inclusive teaching and learning approaches
• assessment of learners
• facilitating learning and development for individuals
• facilitating learning and development in groups
• understanding principles and practices of assessment
What careers will these qualifications lead to?
These qualifications can help you to progress in teaching/training roles in a wide range of organisations in the lifelong learning sector. These include:
- Public sector organisations
- Private sector organisations
- Further Education, Adult and Community Education.
The VTCT Level 3 Award in Education and Training
Is an introduction to teaching that will give an insight into the roles, responsibilities and relationships in education and training, how to plan and deliver inclusive teaching sessions and how to assess and give constructive feedback.

The VTCT Level 4 Certificate in Education and Training
Is a first stage teaching qualification that has a teaching/training practise requirement. It is an ‘in service’ qualification designed for those working or wishing to work as teachers/trainers in England. It may be possible for pre-service teachers/trainers (defined as those who are not formally contracted as teachers/trainers) to also complete this qualification.
This qualification can take from 6-12 months depending on trainee tutors taking their own initiative to compete assignments quickly , with self motivation and setting time aside to study, research and write the assignments.
Lessons will be a mix of online, in class and research

All candidates, whether pre-service or in-service must have access to 30 hours of teaching. This qualification is also suitable for those delivering education and training in any learning environment.
